Super Bowl Hang Over

Forget what the title of this post says, I’m not talking about consuming too much alcohol, I’m talking about the extreme feeling called euphoria that I felt the second Super Bowl XLVI was over! The New England Patriots  (I still will not say their name on this blog) lost and all is good in the land.

I had a bunch of fellas at my house and mounds of food.  The game was great and I don’t feel as bad that my Steelers were not playing in the big game.

The above quote was from Eli Manning the Quarter Back for the Super Bowl winning New York Giants. I think he should have guaranteed the win.  He absolutely OWNS Tom Brady. Lovely.

Well, it’s over now, and I gotta focus on my Knicks. Oh yeah, and the upcoming wedding photography season too.

Super Bowl Sorrow

First weekend in Feb means only one thing: Super Bowl Sunday.  The culmination of real blood, sweat and tears over the grueling NFL season.  Two teams fighting for the Lombardi Trophy.   The problem is that MY team is nowhere to be found.

After last year’s disastrous Steeler loss in 2011 Super Bowl XLV to the Green Bay Packers I was hoping that we [The Photosapien and the Steelers] had enough in the tank to fight through injuries and get back into the big game. Not to be. The Good Guys lost in the first round to the surprising Denver Broncos on a simple play in overtime by Tim Tebow and Demaryius Thomas.  We forgot to tackle I guess.

Sigh.

So now it’s the New York Giants [whom I have no ill will against] vs my absolute enemy the New England Patriots. I crossed out their name because I cannot stand to see that they have a chance to win YET ANOTHER championship.

Sigh x 2

Yeah yeah I have Haterade juice overflowing my cup. So what.

I will be rooting HARD for the same result in this epic rematch from Super Bowl XLII .  As it stands, I am 19 hours, 24 minutes and 29 seconds away from kick off and I can only pray that the pain of a Steeler-less Super Bowl is eased by a Patriots defeat (notice I didn’t say a Giants win?).

The 2 photos above are a representation of the Photosapien when the Steelers lost and my expression when I realized that the New England Patriots were going to the Super Bowl.  You pick which picture fits either situation.

Joanne + Cleveland | Markham Engagement Photography

Here we go. Again.

My Sister in Law is getting married in 2012 and we have the most elaborate Engagement Session(s) planned and this is (only) part #2.  Their Save the Date Alter Ego shoot was part #1.  For this shoot, we picked a location that had some tall grass and interesting concrete pillars.  The rest was up to the models and the Photosapien.

We had the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th arms from Relativ Media to assist with lighting set ups and video.  Extra help always makes the shoot go smoother.

The day was deceptively cold but we all managed to fight through it.  Warriors we are.

Joanne and Cleveland are definitely a great story.

They met in high school but didn’t date. Then years later worked together, but didn’t date.  Lastly, they re-re-met at another job and THEN decided to date.  It’s unclear who made the first move but here we (they) are.

I’ll say it again, I cannot wait for the wedding and for the next instalment of their Engagement Session.

Engagement Alter Ego!

Cleveland and Joanne have an interesting story to tell about how they got together which I will save for a later post. What I will mention is that I am shooting the most elaborate engagement session for these two.  I will not give away what it is before you see it but this is part one, the Alter Ego Save the Date shoot.

The location was picked out, wardrobe set, make up being applied and all of my gear set to go, then we realized we were up against the clock!  We had a lot of shooting to do and a very short window to get it done.  There is a lot of preparation before, during and after a “regular” photo shoot, multiply that by 10x for an Alter Ego shoot.  Now I realized we had 66 minutes to shoot 8 different scenes including wardrobe changes and make up fixes, pack up my gear and clean up, phew.  Somehow we managed to get it done and I like the result.

This photo was used for the couple’s Save-The-Date and the compliments haven’t stopped coming!

I am glad Joanne thought of it and that they pulled it off so well!  Vogue/GQ couple.

Special thanks to Milu Design for make up services, the photo shoot location preparation and design of the Save-The-Date cards.

Next up, the second shoot. Stay tuned.

Natalie and Trevor | Washington D.C. Wedding

I shot my first destination wedding and it was an incredible experience. Not only was I doing what I love but I was able to spend some time away from home [VACATION] and see some old friends in America along with spending time with my Wife and kids.

It’s such a different perspective shooting away from home.  Packing all my gear, going thru the airport terminals, plane rides, driving an unfamiliar car (rental), trusting my rental car GPS system for each and every turn, not knowing where to stop on a busy wedding day for a refreshing Red Bull and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup…Crazy but I loved every minute of it.

So I did a thorough location scout of the National Harbor grounds and mapped out a couple of routes to and from the church.  I felt that I was ready for the wedding day.  The rains threatened to try and ruin the day (like during our Engagement shoot in Toronto) but held off.  The weather was perfect and the wedding was great.  I got to photograph members of the US Military.  The Groom, Trevor, and some of his Groomsmen are decorated Marines. Impressive.

Along with the business of shooting the wedding of course the Photosapien went to visit the Obama’s and take in the historic grounds that I haven’t visited in over 20 years. I had my first Chic-fil-A burger and didn’t shop ONCE on a visit to America for the first time.  Didn’t bother me that I didn’t go shopping, it was just great showing my young daughters the most powerful business office building in the world.

I thank God for the opportunity to combine my love for photography and living life.

[If you are wondering, the answer is YES, the Photosapien is ready for his first island destination wedding so get at me!]
